Vita

The Syrian painter Asaad Ferzat (born in 1959) is descended from a well-known family of artists in Damacus. In 1986 he concluded his art studies with a degree of excellence.

Very soon he could display his paintings in solo exhibitions in Syria and in other Arabic countries. He also participated in group exhibitions in Europe.

Temporarily he worked as a graphic designer for the satirical magazine Addomari.

Later, he lectured as a professor for the art of painting at the Institute of Applied Arts in Damscus and as a teacher at international art workshops.

Many of his paintings are now in possession of the National Museum in Damascus.

For several years Asaad Ferzat lives in exile in Switzerland.

He, who had been a celebrated artist in the Arabic countries, went through difficult times in his life: His resistance to dictatorship led to political persecution and forced him and his family to flee. His only child fell ill in Syria and died later in Switzerland.

Now he was left with nothing in foreign country. Thankfully, he had not lost his language and his means of expression: The art.

Undoubtedly, his experiences influence his works of art, but at the same time he maintained an affectionate, accurate and humorous view at the humans and things he paints.
